Safety

Bertschi is committed to responsible, professional and honest business dealings in accordance with the principles of "Responsible Care". Potential dangers are periodically examined within the company and the risks assessed. On this basis, we define our safety standards and rules of behaviour. With the Safety and Quality Assessment (SQAS) assessment and Behaviour Based Safety (BBS) training, the safety of chemical transports is continuously improved. Furthermore, in order to ensure the safe handling of feed- and foodstuffs, the risks are also subjected to a Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP) analysis. All employees are trained in the safety requirements relevant to their work activities (e.g. "Behaviour Based Safety“ BBS). The following principles apply, with the goal of reducing the number of accidents, injuries, damages and complaints to zero as well as continuously improving the high standards already achieved.

The “Stop at Risk” campaign was launched at the end of 2013. The target of the campaign is to raise the employee’s awareness of risky situations and to train them in the correct behaviour. We aim for zero working incidents and no product spills.

Sustainability

Part of our company’s philosophy is to promote intermodal transportation and to reduce CO2 emissions (e.g. modal-split in Europe: 60% rail, 25% road, 15% short sea). Our facility with a total of 300,000 square feet is installed with Solar Photovoltaic roof panels. Bertschi has been conducting our activities in an environment-friendly manner for decades.

With the systematic extension of our inter-modal network and the transfer of cargo from road to environmental friendly rail- and waterways, we make a valuable contribution to environmental protection. We work continuously with our partners to reduce the impact on the environment. Working with chemicals is performed with extreme care in order to prevent leakage of the products. Our commitment goes along with the guidelines of the "Responsible Care“ programme, which we have undersigned.
